Council Meeting Highlights........June 3rd, 2025
Council met Tues, June 3. Meeting opened at 7 p.m. w/devotions by President Dave Yonkings. The minutes of the May 6 meting were read and approved as printed.
President’s Report: Exterminator has been taken care of. (Central was cancelled and Hoban was hired.) The defibrillator is ready to hang.
Treasurer’s Report: Ed Adkins presented May financial report, all very basic info. Adopt-a-School separate line item account balance not listed. Currently has $250 minus the donuts! Ed to compare food pantry account with Jackie Stevens. Income was $17,445.00. Expenses were $8,695.27. Net gain of $8,749.73. Total liquid assets: $526,878.90. Karen Kovacs motioned to accept Treasurer’s Report as written. Sue Citro second. Motion passed.
Pastor’s Report: Pastor Steve Krebill attended meeting to discuss proposal for becoming Interim Pastor.
Office Secretary’s Report: Newsletter article due June 16 (Donna Bolling). Pastor Steve requested “off” on Aug. 10. Pastor Stylski is Pulpit Supply.
Committees: Bluegrass summer vacation until September 6. Got rental openers and closers for all June and early July rentals. Deanna Powell and Louise Hall to “watch” opener/closer as training. Susan Adkins to get Deanna Powell a main key. Susan Adkins talked to Carol Keene re:2 communion hymns, instead of 1. VBS theme: “Exploring God’s Creation”. Susan to prep flyers and forms. Planning meeting July 20 at 11 a.m. Susan Adkins to apply for $250 Thrivent card. People still donating to Warm-A-Child, but “slower” than winter. They DO accept yarn donations. Susan Adkins to include Sock-Ri-Fice in bulletins. Front Door is running out of money and requesting donations. Co-Op to hold wine/chocolate event Sept./Oct, likely at First Lutheran. Great Lakes Church needs underwear. Also looking for help sorting clothes Weds. from 9-11:30 a.m. Redeemer Episcopal has urban farm up and running: selling produce 10-2 on Saturdays from Magdalen’s Coffee Shop on Broadway (near Palace). Holds a Tues. comm. meal 4 pm on Farm at 14th between Reid and Lexington. St. Andrew’s Meal still working out of Methodist church, but not a problem, it’s going well. LCCC nursing students to continue volunteer for community service at pantry. Would also like them for blood pressures, medical-related “stuff”, etc. Kitch. Remodel: Much discussion re: general contractor, lots of details, bids, etc. Jackie Stevens shared her notebook of prices, lists, designs, etc. Looks like demo in Oct. and build in Nov. Susan Adkins not to accept any rentals Oct. 11—Nov. 27. After much discussion, Sue Citro motion to ask congregation for $80,000 for project. Second by Deanna Powell. Motion passed. Steve Hoyson discussed problems with lawn mower starting. Dave Yonkings to check battery. Need more help to video on Sunday mornings. Much easier than it used to be since we record, then post; not livestream.) Third Sunday in June is Fathers’ Day, so fellowship potluck. Sign-up sheet soon. Karen Kovacs to contact CA church to see how they’re doing, what are needs, etc. Possibly have cards to color/sign at potluck.
New Business: After discussion re: Pastor Steve’s proposal to be Interim Pastor, Andrea Orosz motion to accept Steve’s proposal starting in September, as 1-year contract. Second by Terri Camp. Unanimous approval. Next step is to prepare for a congregational vote, which needs to be announced three weeks in advance. Deanna Powell brought up topics of Sunday School and Confirmation Class. After much discussion, decided Sunday school to start in September after a school “rally day”. So far, idea/plan is to have Pastor Steve start with a children’s sermon, then children dismissed to hall to continue lesson. Monthly. Volunteers to lead. Further discussion w/Pastor Steve re: Sunday School and Confirmation Class in fall.
