What Happens After Pastor Laurie Leaves?
Good question!
The Congregation Council has already been in touch with the Synod office to receive information and advice about the process of continuing ministry in the interim and then calling a new pastor to fit the needs and budget of the congregation. Some working groups have been assigned and more are planned. Think about what gifts/skills you have and where you might be able to help.
The Continuity Committee is charged with making sure things continue on as needed during the pastoral vacancy. The committee includes: Susan Adkins, Donna Bolling, Karen Kovacs, Mark Vitas, and Chris & Dave Yonkings. This group has already met and will be meeting again before Pastor Laurie departs on June 18th. Some of their tasks include: providing for transfer of information (computer and paper files), assigning areas of responsibility, securing supply pastors, and recruiting for tasks such as taking Holy Communion to home bound members. This group will also communicate about our ongoing ministries; if they can’t answer your question, they will know whom to ask!
The Transition Team has the purpose of exploring God’s expectations for the congregation. They will communicate regularly with the council and will want to include conversations with the whole congregation. They will seek to discern: Christ Lutheran’s “strengths, challenges, opportunities, and threats”, Core Values and Passions, the gifts we need in the next pastor, and ministry site characteristics. They will be working with Pastor Julianne Smith from the NEO Synod Staff. This team includes: Ed Adkins, Karen Kovacs, Andrea Orosz, Pat Schrull, Mark Vitas, and Chris Yonkings. There is room for more on the Team. Is God nudging you to serve here? Their first meeting is Sunday, July 2nd after worship.
The Call Committee is charged with completing a Ministry Site Profile, interviewing pastoral candidates, discerning God’s will, and recommending to council the person they have chosen to meet the congregation. This group will be appointed by council and has not been named yet. These people need to be great listeners, thoughtful, intuitive, and patient. Is that you?
